The Effect of Tenotomy and Immobilisation
نویسنده
چکیده
The effect of tenotomy and of immobifisation in lengthened and shortened positions on the intramuscular connective tissue of the calf muscles of the rat was studied morphometrically and with a scanning electron microscope. Both tenotomy and immobilisation produced a marked increase in both the endomysial and the periinysial collagen networks, with a simultaneous decrease in intramuscular capillary density. The increase in connective tissue volume was more pronounced and occurred more rapidly in the soleus, which consists mainly of type I, slow-twitch fibres than in the gastrocnemius, which is mainly of type II, fasttwitch fibres. The relative volume ofconnective tissue increased in parallel with the duration of immobilisation after immobilisation in a shortened rather than in a

Traumatic First Time Shoulder Dislocation: Surgery vs Non-Operative Treatment
Management of first shoulder dislocation following reduction remains controversial. The two main options are immobilisation and arthroscopic stabilisation. The aim of this article is to highlight some of the issues that influence decision making when discussing management options with these patients, including natural history of the first time dislocation, outcomes of surgery and non-operati...
متن کاملTreatment of Massive Irreparable Rotator Cuff Tear with Arthroscopic Subacromial Bursectomy, Biceps Tenotomy, and Tuberoplasty
Background: The alternative surgery for massive and irreparable shoulder rotator cuff tears in older patients is thedebridement of subacromial bursa, biceps tenotomy, and tuberoplasty (reverse acromioplasty). This study aimed toreport the effectiveness of such a treatment performed arthroscopically in a small group of patients for a short periodof time. Methods: This pros...
متن کاملCorrection of neglected idiopathic club foot by the Ponseti method.
The Ponseti method of treating club foot has been shown to be effective in children up to two years of age. However, it is not known whether it is successful in older children. We retrospectively reviewed 17 children (24 feet) with congenital idiopathic club foot who presented after walking age and had undergone no previous treatment. All were treated by the method described by Ponseti, with mi...
متن کاملHigher Rates of Achilles Tenotomy after a Didactic Session on Ponseti Method
We have conducted a retrospective study to know the impact of a didactic sitting on the Ponseti method of clubfoot management. We have compared the outcome of patients managed by orthopaedic residents who attended such a session with that of patients treated by residents who didn’t get this additional training. The results revealed that the frequency of PTA tenotomy was significantly higher in ...
متن کاملEffects of tenotomy surgery on congenital nystagmus waveforms in adult patients. Part II. Dynamical systems analysis
Congenital nystagmus (CN) is an aperiodic oscillatory eye movement disorder of unknown etiology. We examined the effect of horizontal rectus tenotomy with simple re-attachment on the dimensionality of the dynamical mechanism underlying CN. The correlation dimensions (CDs) were calculated from eight patients who had tenotomy surgery. We found no significant differences in the CDs that could be a...
